Conserving and restoring
America's native plants

CORRECT !!

Nearly 90% of the plant species, found in Hawai`i are endemic to that region. This means that they occur nowhere else in the world!

Shark tail cyanea (Cyanea pinnatifida) is endemic to O`ahu. The single population known to remain consists of only one individual. This taxon is listed as endangered by the federal government. Shark tail cyanea is a shrub, usually unbranched, that grows on steep, wet, rocky slopes in shady ravines.

    Unfortunately, three problems threaten this plant:
  • Competition from alien plant species;
  • Collection by humans; and
  • Trampling by humans.
