Center for Plant Conservation
Conserving and restoring
America's native plants

WRONG !!....

Try again !

CPC estimates that 4,200 native plants are of conservation concern. This is roughly one-fifth of all plant species native to the United States. As human population pressures on our natural resources have increased, many of these plants have been pushed to the brink of extinction. Many could become extinct within just a few years.

    Consider these losses:
  • Nearly half of all wetlands in the United States have been destroyed by development;
  • The state of Missouri has lost 99.5% of its native prairie; and
  • It has lost 87% of its wetlands.
