A collaboration of the Center for Plant Conservation (CPC), the University of Missouri School of Journalism and College of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources, this special edition of the Plant Conservation newsletter focuses on the nation's No. 2 hotspot for critically imperiled plant diversity.
This online resource is expanded content from the printed publication and should be used as an educational tool for California policymakers, educators and residents, as well as anyone interested in imperiled plant issues.
In the summer of 2011, four University of Missouri (Mizzou) journalism students travelled with their professor and a liaison from CPC on a once-in-a-lifetime tour of California. The group moved from north to south and met with more than 30 botanists, other scientists and conservation workers along the way. The goal was to learn about why California is so biologically diverse and what is being done to protect the imperiled native plants. The students then created content for the special CPC newsletter.
